Photo checklist

Give the maker a clear view of the costume

Use one sharp, unobstructed subject and make the homemade costume visible. The maker has more to work with when the face is readable and the lighting is even. Good inputs help, but no photograph guarantees an exact likeness in a newly generated image.

Look for soft light and a visible face

Daylight from a window is often easier to work with than a bright lamp overhead. Choose a front-facing or nearly front-facing portrait. Avoid deep shadows over the eyes, sunglasses, hair across the face and aggressive filters that remove distinguishing detail.

Show the costume that went wrong

The homemade costume is the punchline, so pick a photo that shows it — the paper hat, the wrong colour, the last-minute fix. Head to toe is ideal if you have it. A phone photo of an old print is fine; crop out the album edges so only the child remains.

Use one subject per photo

One clear child in the frame keeps the identity unambiguous. Keep other people out of the crop and leave enough of the head visible to show the face. For a pet, use a sharp photo with visible eyes and coat markings.

Check the file before upload

Use JPG, PNG or WebP within the 10 MB limit shown in the tool. If a phone image uses another format, export a supported copy first. When signed in, choosing a photo starts preparation and upload; the browser corrects orientation and resizes large images. Signed-out selection is a local preview.

Check permission as carefully as sharpness

Use your own image or one of your own child. Children other than your own, public figures and celebrities are not permitted. Confirm that sharing the final video is also acceptable. If the result looks wrong, review the photo before spending another credit.

Questions people ask

Will a heavily filtered photo preserve the face better?

Usually it removes useful detail. Prefer an evenly lit, lightly processed image that looks like the person in ordinary conditions.

Does the photo need to be a Halloween costume?

It should be the real costume photo — the truth slide. The contrast between the homemade outfit and the promised costume is what makes the joke work.

Can I upload HEIC directly?

The current tool lists JPG, PNG and WebP. Export an HEIC photo into one of those formats before selecting it.

When does the selected image leave my device?

For signed-in users, preparation and upload begin when the photo is selected. A signed-out preview remains local. Generation starts only after you submit the request.
